All of us in one way or another affect the outcomes we attract, the people we meet.
This happens instinctively and on a subconscious level through thought transference and body language.
The thought patterns we choose create the outcomes we experience while other people sense our aura and are affected by our thoughts and the signals we give off.
Is it any wonder then we want to be around positive persons and shun the negative?
People are more disposed to help us if we are upbeat. They dislike and avoid anyone broadcasting negativity because it threatens their own security.

How to develop attitudes that lead to happiness in the third age
Choose to be happy;
Look at the bright side of life;
Have faith in yourself and in the power of the universe;
Associate yourself with happy people;
Read inspiring stories;
Repeat affirmations that inspire and motivate you;
Visualise only what you want to happen;
Learn to master your thoughts;
Learn concentration and meditation.
Even one step toward manifesting a positive attitude will cast increased light into your existence – and extend the fleeting lifespan.
Connecting with your innate power
There is no magic to the discovery of your power of achievement. You unlock your gifts of talent, skill and knowledge by simply taking control of two basic principles accessible at any time:
The power to think positively;
The power to act.
When you consistently think and act on your potential you also disengage your limits and the reasons why you can’t. You start to focus on reasons why you can. It all begins with the risk of believing more in yourself than your limits.
List some of the challenges you consider threatening in retirement. Do you believe these challenges have more power than you have? The task in working with your power is to determine how much failure you can handle to get you from where you are to where you eventually want to be.

Treading the path to cosmic power in retirement
“The contemplation of celestial things will make a man both speak and think more sublimely and magnificently when he descends to human affairs”
Cicero
When you make a conscious decision to tread the path that leads to cosmic power you will achieve things in retirement that you never even contemplated attempting in your working life.
The path you will tread is not mystic nor is there an aura of mystique surrounding it. As we observed in the opening chapter of this book: by increasing your awareness you travel in a downward spiral to reach the higher self; from conscious down to subconscious and down yet again to unconscious. And as you become skilful in these mental exercises you start to draw freely and abundantly from the well of cosmic power.
Start by looking for the needle in the haystack...
Starting to look is the first step but things really begin to happen when you believe that the needle is really there.
Being specific with what you want to do with your retirement will give your mind a directive that will make it work more effectively;
Being specific with your thoughts and actions increases the possibility for you to be more pro-active.
This gives you more power to choose your response to circumstance.
This power, this cosmic power to choose, leads you to act on principle rather than according to your mood. In other words, you are not your habits, your beliefs or your attitudes. You learn these things therefore you can unlearn them when you take control of your mind and power by focusing on specific thoughts and actions which form specific habits.

How to start each day with a tranquil mind
A clear mind is a tranquil mind. Marcus Aurelius, that rare combination of emperor and philosopher, phrased it like this: “By a tranquil mind I mean nothing else than a well-ordered mind.”
But how do you start each day with a tranquil mind? There is no better way than to ponder these two great universal truths:
o There is a way out;
o Any sincere seeker can find it.
The way out of what?
Out of the psychological prison that almost everyone realises he or she is trapped in. It is a prison with endless rows of cells: fear, anxiety, the feeling of having been cheated out of the best in life, and so on. There is a way out of every one of these cells of desperation.
Take for example the painful feeling of guilt; a purely self-centered emotion which provides an unhealthy thrill of self-condemnation and ill-conceived reflection on your ‘cruel’ self. It is a familiar but totally false idea that guilt is a sign of humility or repentance.
Far from producing humility it creates the exact opposite. Because it is a miserable pressure, a sense of unfounded guilt drives the unfortunate subject into more negativity; such as arrogance, hostility, and even cruelty.
The way out then is to understand the whole process of negativity and avoid it like the plague by starting each day with a tranquil mind.

Living out each day of your retirement to its fullest measure
“One day, with life and heart, is more than time enough to find a world”
James Russell Lowell
There is a temptation to slow down and ‘take things easy’ when we enter the third and final phase of the lifespan. The temptation can prove strong because we were brought up to believe that is what retirees do: nothing. But there is a new third age concept that rejects inactivity and encourages us to embrace action, living out each day to its fullest measure by engaging in meaningful and enriching pursuits.
Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, but today is a gift. That is why it's called the present. Enjoy your present every day!
Understand its rich power and retirement becomes a time of fulfilment
Think back to a time in your childhood when you were free. Catch a glimpse of those refreshing days you used to enjoy.
This is where you can live once more.
o If you are already retired you ought to be filling your day with interests and pursuits that enrich you; not filling in time; not shackled to tasks someone else lines up for you. Now you are truly free once again so make the most of it; living out every day of your third age experience doing the things you want to do. It will energise you, increase self awareness, sharpen your appetite for life, and enable you to maximise mindpower in your endeavours to get the best out of retirement.
o If you are just coming up for retirement, now is the time to identify the keys for a successful journey in the third age, set goals, and prepare a plan of enactment.

Why it’s true you lack nothing in retirement...
You lack nothing. Everything you need for fulfilment in retirement is already supplied. You have it all at your fingertips right now. You possess both the intelligence and the inclination to forge ahead and liberate yourself from the bondage of the false self.
Even if you have doubts, you need not fear them;
Even if you feel helpless, you need not hesitate;
Even if you don’t know what to do, you need not despair.
Your higher self always knows what you need even if you do not. Look within yourself, seek it out, and listen to it when it speaks.
Why you are already brimful of mental riches
Some people pretend that they are happy or wise or peaceful but in their secret heart believe that it is all a fake.
Here is one of the most startling statements you will ever encounter:
Everyone really is a mental millionaire;
Everyone really does possess happiness and wisdom and peace.
But you will never experience it if you indulge in the pointless act of pretending to be something you really are…

Old Habits Die Hard in the Third Age Years…
I spent a lifetime in retailing and I’m still at it in retirement; albeit virtually.
You know how it goes.
You put up a web page and throw in some stock.
Your page begets another and another and another until one day you’re looking at a site that’s got more stock than Bloomingdales.
But you can’t stop…
The old sourcing skills are making a comeback, sharpening their talons, and coaxing you to duck and dive, bob and weave to find still more stock at even better prices.
So you build another virtual retail store and then another and another and another until you’re looking at an empire.
Then you diversify.
If you are upmarket, you go downmarket.
Why not?
There no shareholders breathing down your neck or smart ass vice presidents demanding that you pull in the reins.
And so you build a bargain basement store and another and another until you’re looking at Wal-Mart.
Expending your energy in this way is fun; it’s therapeutic, and if you go about matters in the right way, it doesn’t cost a thin dime apart from hosting fees – and it can be hugely profitable.
In between times you are still knocking out the odd bestseller just to keep your hand in.
But even now you can’t stop.
You dig deep into the inner recesses of the psyche and draw down expertise that has been rusting away for eons in the vaults of the supraconscious.
Ideas leap out at you from nowhere; you create courses on creative writing, starting a business, offline marketing, online marketing, maximising on retirement, and what have you.
So you build more websites and more websites and more websites and now you are busier than ever you were when you thought you were working.
So how am I doing with all these third age activities?
I’m not hurting.
Most mornings my inbox is crammed with cute little messages like ‘Invoice from Clickbank’ and ‘You have money at PayPal’ and so forth.
But don’t take my word for it.
Visit my website and judge for yourself.

Enjoying good health and staying young at heart
"Wear a smile and have friends; wear a scowl and have wrinkles. What do we live for if not to make the world less difficult for each other?"
George Eliot
Age is not a reality...
It represents no more than a symbol marking the number of years you have lived on this planet. But you are not your chronological age nor were you ever. Had that been so you would have been carrying the label of age-conscious nobody around for all of your life.
But you have not.
You are whatever age you desire to be and, as the ancient saying encapsulates the concept of advancing years, ‘only as old as you have a mind to be’. So by all means celebrate the number of years you have accumulated, rejoice in them, and then concentrate your energies on enjoying good health and staying young in retirement.
To achieve these ideals you must be receptive to healthy ideas and impressions; such ideas and truths come to you a thousand times a day but unless you open your heart and mind they cannot enter with their supply of health and youthfulness.

How to attain and maintain peace in retirement
“Truth is the agreement of the mind with itself”
Plotinus
Freeing the mind of needless stress and strife should by rights open the floodgates to a peaceful life but too often when we snatch a little peace we find difficulty in maintaining it. There would appear to be a masochistic streak lurking in some of us.
We drop our guard, slip back into harmful habits and invite negativity to re-enter our lives causing fresh turmoil. But time is running out and what little is left must be spent first on attaining and then maintaining peace in retirement to the exclusion of all conflicting intrusions.
Think back in time...
o What topped the list of ambitions during your working life?
o Acquiring wealth, power, property, status, and the like?
o How successful were you in your quest?
o How do feel now about the outcome of your endeavours?
Think now about this. If peace of mind didn’t top the list, you were perhaps working to the wrong scale of priorities. Peace is the priceless gift, and when you get right down to it, it’s all anyone really wants out of life because with peace comes contentment and inner happiness.

Why You Should Always Visualize Favorable and Beneficial Situations
Once a negative thought enters the mind you must exercise awareness and endeavour to replace it with something constructive.
The negative thought will try again to take root and once again you must replace it. It is as if there are two pictures in front of you and you choose to look at one of them and disregard the other.
Persistence will eventually teach your mind to think positively and ignore negative thoughts. In the event you experience inner resistance when replacing negative thoughts, do not give up, but keep looking only at the beneficial, good and happy thoughts in your mind.
It makes no difference what your circumstances are at the present moment. Think positively, expect only favourable results, and situations and circumstances will change accordingly. It may take some time for the changes to take place but eventually they will.

Being all you can be in the third age years
“You have succeeded in life when all you really want is what you really need”
Vernon Howard
Just as you have two selves and a mind that has split levels of consciousness, so too the brain, the engine room of the mind, comprises two distinct divisions.
Left or linear brain
Right or creative brain
It is important to understand this because you need to strike an acceptable balance between the disparate functions of the brain if you are to be all you can be in the third age years, to ooze every ounce of satisfaction out of your retirement activities.
To get all you want out of the remaining years is an admirable ambition but it may well be that all you require to achieve enrichment and fulfilment is what you really need.

The Effect of Thought Patterns on the Third Age Experience
No two people approach retirement in the same way; one might embrace the prospect passionately while the other frets and worries. Thought patterns create attitudes and attitudes create outcomes. Outcomes in turn can shape lives for good or ill as in these disparate hypothetical case studies.
Retirement is six months away for Harry and he is filled with feelings of foreboding. An advance calculation of his works pension payout indicates a shortfall in what he’d been led to expect. All he can sees ahead is a diminution of living standards and his foreboding escalates into acute anxiety. He decides to put the matter to the back of his mind and goes into denial, pushing his energies into a series of pointless pursuits.
Anne on the other hand has retirement thrust upon her unexpectedly. She reckoned she had at least another five years of work in her but her employers thought otherwise. They offered Anne a niggardly package to retire early and as she has no works pension to fall back on, her financial future looks bleak in the extreme. She is quite naturally concerned but unlike Harry employs her energies constructively in formulating a plan of action; a plan that will enable her to live in marginally reduced circumstances; a plan that will enrich her retirement in every other direction.
Harry is in for stormy weather with his negative thinking; Anne is in control of her destiny through the power of positive thought and action.Negative thoughts, words and attitude open up negative and unhappy moods and actions.
When the mind is negative, poisons are released into the blood causing more unhappiness and negativity. This is the way to failure, frustration and disappointment.
Conversely, positive thinking can move mountains and resolve problematic situations to which on the surface there would appear to be no logical solution.

Breaking Through to a New World of Enlightenment in Retirement
The renowned self-help author and meta-physician Vernon Howard broke through to another world. He saw through the illusion of suffering and fear and loneliness.
From 1965 until his death in 1992 he wrote many books and conducted classes which reflect a degree of skill and understanding that may be unsurpassed in modern history.
The American journal Human Behaviour Magazine said of him, “Vernon Howard is probably the clearest writer on these subjects in the English language.”
His warmth and refreshing sense of humour made him a delightful subject for interviews, talk shows and articles. In 1983 Michael Benner of station KLOS in Los Angeles, California said, “Vernon Howard is one of the most powerful speakers I have ever interviewed; he has an uncanny ability to cut through the fluff and puff and jolt people into seeing who they really are. At times humorous and gentle, at other times demanding and forceful. Vernon Howard holds the record for generating responses to our KLOS talk shows. Not everyone likes his message but I can’t imagine anyone turning him off.”
In The Esoteric Path to a New Life tape album there is a marvelous interview with Vernon Howard. Also included is a booklet of the same name which will give any new student a great introduction to Vernon Howard’s works.
Today more than 7 million readers worldwide enjoy his exceptionally clear and inspiring presentations of the great truths of the ages. Libraries, bookstores, health food stores and church bookshops all over the world sell Vernon Howard books, booklets, cassette tapes and videotapes. His material is widely used by doctors, psychiatrists, psychologists, clergymen, counselors, educators and people from all walks of life.
Many of Vernon Howard’s class talks are available on cassette tape. All of his teachings centre around one single theme:“There is a way out of the human problem and anyone can find it”
The only topic Vernon Howard ever wrote about was the higher self and the way out of the human problem he discovered was an in-depth appreciation of the vital difference between the two selves of the psyche.
For 25 years before engaging in public instruction Vernon studied every published work on every know mystic, immersed himself in the teachings of every known religion and persuasion, and eventually arrived at a single conviction: without exception they all focused on the higher self and how to access it.
The collected works of this great man have been a constant source of inspiration to me personally over the past 40 years, and if you would like to learn more about Vernon Howard, write to the charitable foundation set up out of the proceeds from his estate:
New Life, PO Box 2230, Pine, Arizona 85544
You will receive by return a complimentary catalogue of his books, DVDs, videos and audio cassettes. Now you have time on your hands, perhaps for the first time in your life; use some of it wisely and make an early start on increasing your awareness, communing with the higher self, and enriching your third age experience.
Alternatively, you may access the complete works of this great writer at a website designed to perpetuate his memory and his teachings http://www.anewlife.org

Experience the Power of Doing Absolutely Nothing About Your Concerns in Retirement
Let me give you an example of the power of the true self over the false. When you fret and worry sometimes the best course of action is to take no action whatsoever.
Why? Because inaction can prove a creative process, opening the door for the higher self to step in and take over; leading to a surprising solution: dissolving the problem rather than providing an answer.
In the lower or false self you are so anxious to do something; so wrapped up in the tension and suspense surrounding the quandary that you are tempted to do almost anything to settle the matter one way or another. That is the false self in action and it leads to poor judgements and impulsive behaviour that only deepens the perceived difficulty.
o Experience the power of doing absolutely nothing about minor concerns;
o Give your mind a chance to clear itself;
o Don’t be so eager to obtain a result.
The answer is already within you but you will never find it as long as you continue to chase around frantically looking for it.
In essence, the key to contentment, enrichment and fulfilment in the third age experience hinges on developing an increasing awareness of the difference between the disparate selves of the psyche; choosing to live in the higher self; avoiding the perils of the lower self.

How Awareness of Your Inner Powers Makes Them Work for You
Increasing your awareness enables you to fully comprehend the mental processes and unleash inner powers which you can use to attain any worthwhile goal in retirement.
Conversely, when you fail to explore your potential you needlessly remain exactly where you are: at the mercy of external influences.
You must start with the concept that you have many exciting things to learn and understand – and with such a receptive attitude, you cannot fail.
o Your mind was created to soar like an eagle;
o Never involve yourself in other people’s problems to distract your mind from your own;
o To fail to understand something does not mean that your mind need persist in misunderstanding it;
o There is no outer progress without inner mental change;
o Your task in retirement is to become a mental magician where you control not only what you want to do, but also what you don’t want to do;
o Put a stop to filling your mind with information that serves no useful purpose;
o Realise that mental power reveals itself gradually and steadily – like the successful completion a crossword puzzle.

How to Escape the Mental Merry-Go-Round in Retirement
o How often have you wished you could blot out your mind and just stop thinking about things?
o How often have you wished you could jump off the mental merry-go-round of frippery and fandango that takes you nowhere?
Think about it: this desire to stop thinking proves something. It proves that you recognise the utter futility of tackling life with nothing more at your command than the inadequate tool of habitual, conditioned, shallow thinking.
Thoughts have their place in the scheme of things; they are essential but at the same time represent only a secondary power. There is something else far superior.
You can and should stop thinking purely with old, personalised, biased, talk-addicted thought patterns that get you nowhere.
The natural replacement for conditioned thinking is awareness.
But it vital that you understand the vast differential between thought and awareness; engaging perhaps for the first time ever in the miracle of unleashing your full mental powers.

Reaching Out To The Higher Self
“Happiness is no other than soundness and perfection of the mind”
Marcus Aurelius
As you sharpen your awareness you begin to appreciate that the psyche comprises two distinct selves:
1. The higher or spiritual self
2. The lower or false self
Conditioned thinking keeps you locked in the latter; increased awareness unveils the catalyst that reaches out to the former. Put that another way: there is good and bad in all of us; there is a right and a wrong way of approaching everyday life; there is harmony in one direction, disharmony in the other.
o Why is it especially significant now? (You have known this stuff since childhood)
o What’s the point of it all?
o What benefits are likely to accrue in retirement by focusing your attention on the inner workings of the psyche?
Just this: the universe may be infinite but life itself is finite.
Living out your days in pursuit of enrichment is where you ought to position yourself; reaching out to the spiritual self with positive awareness to the exclusion of the negativity of the lower, false self.

When You Understand Your Own Mind You Understand Everything
There is nothing wrong with your world, the world you see in your mind’s eye that cannot be rectified with a heightening of awareness and understanding.
But most people don’t accept this; they don’t see it because their perception of outward appearances is deceptive; it is the product of tunnel vision.
In consequence they think that to achieve contentment they must change the exterior world, never realising that to see their world as it really is they must learn to use mindpower correctly.
And so as we begin to see the world as it really is with the magical power of increased awareness and understanding, it changes before our very eyes. It becomes more practical, enlightening, enriching. Every area of external life takes on a bright new aspect.
Because you are different, everything else is different, and you rapidly discover that you have become empowered to…
1. Make decisions easily and accurately;
2. Be on constant alert for opportunities to enhance the third age experience;
3. Become more skilful in handling people;
4. Cease to squander emotional energy;
5. Make the maximum use of time in the advancing years;
6. Think clearly, concisely, truthfully;
7. Exude natural enthusiasm for every project you undertake;
8. Enjoy developing money-making prospects in retirement;
9. Banish gloom, apathy, despair;
10. Inject overall efficiency into all of your affairs.

What Will the Future Hold for You in Retirement?
68 percent of the respondents in a recent US Government survey had no formal preparation for retirement.
What type of planning did they consider most important?
Financial planning, answered 24.3 percent, but a surprising 23 percent indicated that developing interests to pursue in retirement was most important.
One big mistake that many people make is assuming that retirement is going to be a continuation of the old life. But it’s not really a vacation from the work world because you will not return there full time. It will involve major changes in the routine that governed every aspect of your life.
Once you retire, you will have 45 to 50 hours a week of extra free time. Even the most absorbing of hobbies and interests may not fill that time entirely.
And as you plan for retirement, plan for future fulfilment. Think through your ideal post-retirement day, in specifics, not generalities.
Begin to develop interests and activities before you retire that will provide you with a variety of pursuits, from further education to hobbies to volunteering to a part-time job or starting a small business for pleasure and/or profit.

Third Age People Form A Unique Group
They are healthier by far, wealthier to varying degrees, better educated, and more skilled; they have vitality, verve, desire, personal direction, and they have deeper insight than our society has heretofore experienced.
The group, if they can be seen as a group, is a power-packed potential of achievement, practical problem solving, enlightened wisdom, and focused energy.
Here is one of the most pressing challenges of our time; here is where our pioneering spirit of exploring new territory can manifest itself in ways never before possible.
The challenge is how to harness the phenomenal resources resident in this talented, resourceful, seasoned, and purpose-filled population we call retirees.

Age is Not a Criterion for a Successful Retirement
Age alone offers no guarantee that we'll gather the necessary wisdom to exploit the opportunities of retirement and find contentment.
Nor does age miraculously give us the requisite tools, competencies, knowledge, and attitudinal shifts that will ensure that retirement will proceed maximally.
Some people have thirty years of experience, and others have one year of experience thirty times over. Nor does retirement necessarily mean cessation from all work.
The answer lies in the secret of the three little boxes of life and unraveling that calls for some work in our preparations for a successful retirement. The journey from full-time work to full-time retirement in its traditional sense may take a year or so to accomplish but there is no rush.
The question for pre-retirees is to what degree during this time are they actively and consciously encountering the personal growth tasks and individual challenges that need to be addressed in order to achieve the maturity necessary to really get the most out of retirement.

Earn Money Online While You Sleep
How would you like to wake up in the morning to messages in your email inbox with a subject line that reads, ‘You have new funds in your PayPal account’ or ‘invoice @clickbank.com’; messages from electronic payment processors that confirm you have been making money passively while you were asleep?
You can do this even if right now you consider the concept beyond your capabilities because what you are holding in your hands is a practical workbook that will show you how to make money online in retirement irrespective of your personal circumstances.
You can do this if your knowledge of online marketing is currently at zero;
You can do it with just an email address to start;
You can do it on the tightest of budgets;
You can do it without ever interfacing with anyone;
You can do it even if you think you can’t;
You can do while you sleep.

Increasing Your Awareness to Make a Best Friend of the Mind
To maximise enrichment in retirement it is imperative that you develop a plan of action to make a friend of your mind: your best friend.
But you need never strive to create contentment or energy or friendships or anything else; you need only claim them.
You need not struggle; you need only realise. Your lamp is already lighted and you need only remove its covering to make a start on your plan of action.
Your treasures of contentment, enrichment, energy, and everything else you desire in your third age experience are yours to claim.
